Clinical Review of Neonatal Tetanus

Abstract
Neonatal tetanus is still one of the serious problem in Korea because of its relatively high incidence and high mortality. Total 31 cases of the patient of neonatal tetanus were clinically evaluated and treated to the Department of Pediatrics, Jeonbug National University Medical School from Jan. 1976 to Oct, 1979.
The results were as follows :
1) The number of patients yearly means were about 78 cases which was 1.35 % of total admitted patient on pediatrics.
2) There was revealed the high incidence of the male than female, its ratio was about 2.4 : 1.
3) The mortality rate.was 26%.
4) Home delivery with no sanitory facilities was a problem of the neonatal tetanus.
5) The incutation period was usually 5 days.
6) About 93.5% were admitted during 12 days after onset of symptom.
7) Most common chief complains were poor sucking(96.8%), convulsion(93.6%), irritability (80.6%), rigidity(71%) and hyperpyrexia was significantly correlated with mortality.
